Denzel Clarke and Chris Begg travel to Dominican Republic

From May 17-27, Everest student, Denzel Clarke, and teacher/coach, Chris Begg, travelled with Canada’s Junior National Team to the Dominican Republic for the team’s annual trip to compete against Major League Baseball teams’ Dominican affiliates. The experience is an eye-opener to the global game and gives sense to where players from different nations begin their pursuit of the Major League dream.

In addition to playing top competition from the nation, the trip was highlighted by a stop at a small sandlot diamond in the middle of a small Dominican village. The team mingled with the local kids, walked between the houses, and capped the day off with a three inning softball game against some of the adults from the village, all after playing 18 innings of baseball earlier in the day against the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros.

The team is gearing up for the World Championship Qualifier, which will be held in Panama in November. The top four teams will earn a berth to the World Championships in 2019.
