5 Key Elements for a Success Athletic Development Program
It is the dream of thousands of athletes all over the world to play their sport in the NCAA, an Ivy League institution, or professionally. However, accomplishing this has become even more difficult than ever before, as the number of athletes has dramatically grown, and there are absolutely no guarantees along the way. There are, however, key principles that, when followed, greatly enhances an athlete’s chances of achieving their dreams and goals. Everest Academy provides the best opportunities and resources for today’s student-athletes to put into practice five key principles for academic and athletic success.
#1 - AN EARLY START
Everest Academy is Canada’s first sport school to provide student-athletes as early as JK an opportunity to develop a strong academic and athletic foundation. It takes years of systematic training and daily quality coaching and instruction to reach the highest ranks. An early start will invariably affect future opportunities and greatly enhance a student-athlete’s chances of success.
According to Benjamin Bloom, a professor of education at the University of Chicago, in 1985, all the superb performers he investigated had "practiced intensively, had studied with devoted teachers, and had been supported enthusiastically by their families throughout their developing years". Later research building on Bloom's pioneering study revealed that "the amount and quality of practice were the key factors in the level of expertise people achieved."
Everest Academy offers an environment where student-athletes will practice intensively, study with devoted teachers, and enjoy the support of a community of high achievers.
#2 - INDIVIDUAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
The Everest platform is designed for individual skills development. Students progress at their pace. By determining individual strengths and weaknesses, instruction is personalized according to the individual needs and learning style of the student.
Scientific research has concluded that it takes eight to ten years of training for a talented athlete to reach elite levels. This is known in the scientific literature as the 10-year or 10,000-hour rule. Everest recognizes that a long-term commitment to training is required to produce elite athletes in all sports. Our platform is designed to maximize a student-athletes potential and help propel them to the next level.
#3 - EXPERT COACHING
Everest Academy offers expert coaching and instruction throughout the developing years of the athlete. Young athletes learn their skills by imitation and being corrected (with positive feedback) at the optimum time. It is why it is so critical to have knowledgeable and experienced coaches. Everest sports directors and coaches know the difference between executing skills correctly and incorrectly.
#4 - WORLD-CLASS RESOURCES AND FACILITIES
Everest Academy is located inside The Pavilion Sports Complex in beautiful Thornhill, Ontario. The Pavilion is Canada’s largest privately owned sports complex. This impressive $40 million, 150,000 square feet facility boasts all the amenities a student-athlete would want.
Students at Everest Academy have access to a safe & secure campus, over 25,000 sq/ft of strength and conditioning equipment, yoga studios, NBA size basketball court, 2 NHL size ice rinks, squash and Racquet ball courts, 3 outdoor soccer fields, 4 baseball diamonds, 2 full size salt water based pools, Sauna, hot tub, and steam rooms.
#5 - BUILDING CONFIDENCE AND SELF-ESTEEM
Building confidence and self-esteem forms an integral part of the Everest Academy experience. By nurturing the love of sports, helping athletes to develop strong fundamentals, having fun, and being in a positive environment students become independent, confident, and engaged learners.
