Figure Skating

Sonya is the Head Coach at Sonya's Skating School and has 25 years of teaching experience in Power Skating, Figure Skating and Choreography. Sonya's accomplishments include skating consultant for hit TV series Degrassi: the Next Generation, and is a triple gold medalists (figures, freeskate and dance). Sonya is a certified level 3 NCCP program, has coached many NHL players and international skaters, was the skating coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and has over 20 years of coaching experience. She was the choreographer for the International Ice Show in Atami, Japan 1981 with a cast of 45 members, and Las Vegas on Ice Skater for Ice Capades for 3 years. She continues to be the choreographer, and Director for ice shows in the Toronto area and local ice shows with participant numbers around 400 skaters. For more information about

Sonia brings her vast experience to Everest Academy's figure skating program and learn to skate programs. In addition to on-ice coaching and training, we are incorporating ballet, for grace, balance and posture on ice as well as dance to help in creating a well balanced skater.
Full-year academic/athletic program starting at $1085/mth
The Everest Academy Figure Skating program includes:
JK to Grade 1
To learn all the basics of edge work and gliding. To fastrack thru a canskate - junior level program. Do low end testing thru the skate canada program. For hockey players, teach skating skills to enhance playing level.
Grade 2 to 4
Continue the test stream and add the competitive competition stream to introduce them to performance at a low level.
Grade 5 to 7
Introduce the high end competitive stream at a Sectional level. Continue to test for qualifying reasons for competitive levels.
Grade 8 to 10
At this age the skater should be on the road to a high end competitive level. Many competitions as well as the high test stream.
Grade 10 to 12
At this age the skater should be ready to compete at a top level to represent their country.
