Program Information
Henry Brunton Golf –an industry leader in junior golf- is pleased to partner with the Everest Academy in Maple, Ontario. Beginning in September 2010, student-athletes at the Everest Academy will have the opportunity to participate in the Golfer Development Program-a specialized golf coaching and training program designed to serve athletes who have interest in making golf their secondary sport of choice. This program will enable athletes to develop golf skill competency and confidence. As well, many of the skills taught and reinforced will have a positive transfer to their primary sport.
The Golfer Development Program is designed to work in alignment with the Everest Academy academic curricula to enable students to reach their potential as both athletes and people. The golf coaching and training activities are designed to complement the primary sport training and performance of the athletes. Participants will experience a comprehensive and systematic approach to golf developing/improving sound technical fundamentals, ball striking skills, short game proficiency, on course performance and personal development throughout the school year. This is a fun and exciting second sport training opportunity for young athletes- a unique opportunity to develop skill and confidence in a lifetime sport.

The Golfer Development program is designed to provide high performance athletes with a professional approach to learning and enjoying a secondary sport. This program is suitable for individuals who:
- Are interested in the sport of golf;
- Are excited about improving their golf skills and exploring their potential as golfers;
- Take responsibility for their actions and are “coachable”;
- Do not abuse alcohol and/ or illegal drugs;
- Have positive attitudes;
- Respect and honour the game;
- Give scholastics top priority; and
- Play for the love of the game and the challenges that it presents.
What can participating athletes expect?
Participating athletes can expect:
- To have fun;
- To be stimulated and appropriately challenged;
- First rate coaching and training from the Henry Brunton Golf Coaching Staff.
- To improve as golfers, students, and people;
- Honest and open two –way communication and feedback;
- A written “Performance Plan” which leads the athlete towards his/her specific goals. This plan clearly outlines structured coaching, practice, and training activities and strategies with a focus on core fundamentals; swing technique, fitness, nutrition, short game proficiency, course tactics, self-management, and mental skills;
“Journey to Excellence” – A Young Golfer’s Complete Guide to Development and Personal Growth.
Henry Brunton published his first book in September 2009 called “Journey to Excellence” –foreword by Johnny Miller. This book is being adopted by golf professionals worldwide to educate players, parents, and to serve as a guide for their junior programs. All participants in the Golfer Development Program will receive a copy of the book. The information contained in the book will be taught and reinforced to students throughout the year. What are the specific program activities?
Participating athletes will receive the following coaching and training opportunities:
September and October
- September 7 - Opening Day – Fun 9 Hole Scramble Golf Tourney – play with the pros – HB Golf Coaching Staff – Program Introduction and Overview
- Weekly Coaching and Training Sessions - Every Wednesday at Eagles Nest– 3 hours per day – 1PM- 3PM – September and October
November – January 27 (end of 1st Semester)
- Weekly Coaching and Training Sessions - Every Wednesday at Everest Academy and The Launch Golf Centre- indoor /outdoor heated golf training facility – 3 hours per day – 1PM- 4PM.
2nd Semester – Jan 27- June 9
- Coaching and Training Sessions - Every Tuesday, and Thursday at Everest Academy and The Launch Golf Centre- indoor /outdoor heated golf training facility – 2 hours per day – 1PM- 3PM.
Coaching and Training Facilities
- Eagles Nest Golf Club
Henry Brunton Golf is headquartered at Eagles Nest Golf Club- 5 minutes north of the Everest Academy. Eagles Nest is Canada’s #1 Rated Public Golf Facility. HB Golf is equipped with all of the top learning and coaching tools including TrackMan, TOMI, Shot By Shot; and state of the art video feedback.
- Indoor Season – Launch Golf Centre
The Launch Golf Centre is the host winter training facility for the program. The Launch is Canada’s top 4 season golf training facility – it is equipped with heaters for winter days – golfers hit outdoors with full ball flight year round.
- Pavillion – home of Everest Academy – incredible fitness and cross training facilities.
Key areas of coaching and training
- Making academics priority #1 – proactively working ahead with assignments and exam studying so that golf does not get in the way of school and vice –versa;
- Ensuring that core fundamentals are sound (grip, stance, ball position, alignment, and posture);
- Devising a written “Performance Plan” that clearly outlines goals and planned action for golf and personal development;
- Getting the body into top physical condition for golf performance and to withstand the rigors of high performance training and competitive golf;
- Adopting excellent nutrition and hydration habits;
- Playing with equipment and balls that are correctly fitted and best suited to their game;
- Refining swing technique with coaching, feedback, and effective training;
- Learning, training, and measuring short game skills;
- Training the mind to be quiet and focused on the target before each shot by following a mental pre –shot routine and post –shot routine;
- Preparing and following game plans in concert with course maps;
- Implementing effective course management strategies;
- Learning the Rules of Golf and being able to effectively implement them in competitive situations;
- Practicing to build skills and enhance performance;
Specialized Tools and Services Available to Athletes
All participating athletes will be exposed to the latest sports science training and development tools and techniques.
TrackMan
SFE athletes will have regular opportunity to utilize TrackMan. TrackMan is revolutionary technology that provides golfers with comprehensive feedback and data regarding their skill proficiency with all of the clubs in their bag – exact carry and roll out yardages; trajectory; spin rates; clubface position; swing shape; and dispersion patterns. It is a phenomenal skills evaluation tool and practice aid.
TrackMan is golf’s version of an MRI Machine. This technology is being utilized each week on the PGA Tour. Over 20 PGA Tour Players have purchased their own personal units. All of golf’s major manufacturers use it for fitting and testing and the USGA and R&A use it for R&D as well as rules compliance testing. It is the most advanced and sophisticated diagnostic tool in golf.
GolfPsych Mental Game Training
There is considerable emphasis in JTE on developing mental skills, adopting high- level practice and event preparation habits, and post–round journaling and analysis. All players will be taught GolfPsych Mental Game techniques used by the top professionals. Henry and Rhonda are both certified GolfPsych professionals (golfpsych.com)
Course Management and Tactics
Effective course management skills are extremely important for competitive players. These skills and tactics will be taught and reinforced throughout the course of the program. There will be considerable emphasis on developing and implementing these habits/skills. Course mapping, pin sheet utilization, establishing written game plans with specific targets, challenging the course appropriately, and playing to “strengths” will be key areas of focus in this regard.
Rules of Golf Training
Athletes will learn the Rules of Golf in a fun and effective fashion. They will learn how to practically apply the rules to their best advantage in competition.
Competitive schedule planning
- All athletes and their parents will be assisted with establishing an appropriate competitive schedule for the 2011 season. All relevant factors: age, development stage, experience, future goals, skill levels, and budget will be taken into account.
- We have compiled a complete list of events and dates to use as a planning tool.
Custom Equipment Fitting
All athletes will have their equipment fitted to optimize their development and performance. HB Golf is an industry leader in this area.
On course coaching
HB Golf Coaches will be setting up a regular “playing” schedule in the spring and summer. Athletes will get on course feedback and suggestions for improvement.

Golf Canada National Men’s Coach
Henry Brunton is one of the most recognizable names in Canadian golf and one of the world’s leading golf coaches and educators. He is the Royal Canadian Golf Association's National Golf Coach, the creator of the Canadian PGA's Teaching and Coaching Certification program, a CPGA Master Professional and the only Canadian ever listed among GOLF Magazine's Top 100 Teachers in America and the US Kids Top 50 Kids Teachers. In 2009, he published Journey to Excellence: The Young Golfer’s Complete Guide to Achievement and Personal Growth, the first comprehensive guide to competitive junior golf for both juniors and their parents.
Brunton has been a member of the Canadian PGA since 1984. In 2008, the Canadian PGA honored him with its highest standing – Master Professional. He was also named as the fourth Most Influential Person in Canadian Golf in rankings by Canada’s National Post. Brunton was recognized in 2009 with the Jack McLaughlin Award as the CPGA National Junior Teacher of the Year.
A resident of Stouffville, Ontario, Brunton has a passion for developing junior golfers. In addition to his work with the Canadian Men’s and Junior Boys National Teams, he also leads “Journey to Excellence,” a comprehensive year-round coaching and training program at the Everest Academy for aspiring high-level junior golfers at his home base at Eagles Nest Golf Club near Toronto.
Rhonda Fleury, BA

2007 Ontario PGA Junior Teacher of the Year
Rhonda Fleury is one of Canada’s most outstanding female golf professionals. She is the Lead Coach with Henry Brunton Golf and was named "Junior Teacher of the Year" by the Ontario PGA for 2006 . She conducts coaching services at Eagles Nest Golf Club in Maple, Ontario during the outdoor season and at The Oasis Indoor Golf Centre in Markham, Ontario during the winter.
Rhonda is a veteran Class “A” Member of the Canadian PGA. Rhonda has achieved excellence throughout her career as a golf professional while contributing to outstanding golf clubs including: Glendale GC in Winnipeg, Lambton GC in Toronto; Maple Downs GC in Richmond Hill, ON; Credit Valley GC in Mississauga, ON; Midland GC in Midland, ON; and Angus Glen GC in Markham, ON. In 1999, Rhonda was recognized by her peers with the Ontario PGA Female Golf Professional of the Year Award. In 2004, Rhonda became a certified GolfPsych Instructor.
Rhonda is an accomplished tournament player. In 2006, she finished first as "Low Club Professional" in the Canadian PGA Championships. In 2004 she won the Ontario PGA Ladies Championship. She has won numerous professional events including: the Whirlpool Trophy as “Low Club Professional” in the 2002 Canadian PGA Women’s Championship; 1999 Ontario PGA Women’s Championship; and the 2001 and 2002 Ontario PGA Mixed Professional Championships. She lost in a play-off to finish runner–up in the 2003 Ontario PGA Women’s Championship. In 2002, Rhonda competed in the LPGA Tour Qualifying School. She is a regular competitor on the Bank of Montreal Canadian Women’s Tour and she has played extensively on the Futures Tour, Central Florida Tour and DuMaurier Tour.
Fleury is a gifted golf coach and educator. She has written numerous articles for golf publications and her instruction has appeared on television. Rhonda has a warm personality and excellent communication skills. She is passionate about helping others achieve their goals on and off the course.
Reg Millage, BBA
Canadian PGA Class A Professional
2009 Ontario PGA Player of the Year
Reg Millage is one of Canada’s top high performance golf coaches. Reg draws on the tremendous experience and success that he has enjoyed as a tournament golfer and shares these skills with developing athletes. He is native of Peterborough, ON, a nine year veteran member of the Canadian PGA, and a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University where he starred on the NCAA DI golf team for four years. He was also Member of the RCGA National Team from 1998-2000 before turning professional. Reg played on the Canadian Tour, Hooters Tour, and Gateway Tour from 2000- 04 before shifting his focus onto both a teaching and a playing career. Reg has moved over to Henry Brunton Golf after 5 years of outstanding service at the Glen Abbey Academy of Golf. Reg had an outstanding 2009 season- he finished #1 on the Ontario PGA Order of Merit and won the Hunt Trophy for OPGA Player of the Year. Athletes who work under Reg’s direction are certain to improve and enjoy the process. His passion for the game and desire to help others is unmistakable.
Aileen Robertson, BA
Canadian PGA Class “A” Professional
Aileen Robertson is an eleven year veteran member of the Canadian PGA and a graduate of the University of South Carolina. She brings a wealth of experience and competitive success to her students and coaching career. Aileen has competed successfully at the highest levels of junior, collegiate, amateur, and professional golf.
The Winnipeg native was a standout at the University of South Carolina. She has won two provincial junior championships, seven provincial amateur championships, and a national championship - the Canadian Women's Amateur. In addition, she was a member of the Canadian National Ladies Amateur Team from 1991-1997. She has competed internationally for Canada on several occasions including the World Am.
Aileen has won several events as a professional and played in the Canadian Women's Open on two occasions on the LPGA Tour. Aileen is focused on helping other keen golfers with achieving their goals. Students will enjoy willingness to share her knowledge and passion for the sport.
